General Assembly of the 71st Session is about to start in Amsterdam
General Assembly of the International Session of the European Youth Parliament in Amsterdam starting Friday
Under the motto “Ending the Crisis”, the European Youth Parliament is bringing together 300 young people from 36 European countries in Amsterdam until 11 November 2012.
The session is now reaching its highpoint with the General Assembly, which will last two full days. The 300 youngsters have been working on their resolutions for three days. The topics vary from the situation in Iran, to the banking sector, and the integration of women in the workforce. The youngsters came up with many new and innovative ideas that they will now present to their peers.
A special focus of the session is on the crisis. Failing institutional structures, which were designed in Maastricht (the Netherlands) exactly 20 years ago, contribute heavily to the severity of the current crisis. Against this backdrop, over 300 young people from all over Europe will ‘return’ to the Netherlands to evaluate and rethink what approach is required for the next twenty years and to discuss solutions to the crisis.
In doing so, they will not stop at immediate fixes, but will consider the direction that Europe should follow over the next decades. What actions should our leaders take to ensure long-term growth and stability in the Eurozone? To what extent can we learn from the vitality of Brazil, Russia, India and China (the BRIC countries)? What will the global economy look like in twenty years? These are the broad questions that will be addressed during ‘Amsterdam2012’.
On Friday the 9th and Saturday the 10th of November, the General Assembly will take place in Amsterdam and the youngsters will present their ideas. On the 9th the General Assembly will take place in ‘Podium Mozaiek’, and on the 10th in ‘Conservatorium van Amsterdam’.
The General Assembly will be officially opened on Friday at 9.00 by, amongst others, the mayor of Amsterdam.
Hereby, we invite you to visit the General Assembly and report on it.
